The Emperor and the Falcons - read short bedtime story

The Emperor and the Falcons

In the 19th century, the emperor of Greece was a kind-hearted man. He was very gentle and sympathetic to his kingdom and people. He never harmed or punished anyone. But he was especially more compassionate towards the animals. He was an animal and bird lover.

He never injured or maltreated any animal in his territory. He hated those who abused the animals. Everyone in his country knew that the emperor loved animals.

One day, a businessman came to his court and signed a deal with him. As a souvenir, he presented him with the two best falcons from his bird farm. The emperor was delighted to see the present. He shifted the falcons to the bird's shelter where he kept the best species of different animals. The falcons were adapted to extremely cold environments. The temperature in Greece was moderate. So they were shifted to a completely different environment.

The emperor ordered the head of the bird's shelters to provide the best facilities to the falcons. He also ordered him to take special care of the birds and make them feel happy and calm in the new country. The head followed the orders of the emperor as it is.

Gradually, the falcons adapted to the new environment comfortably. Then came the day when the falcons had to take their first flight. The businessman had told the emperor that the falcons can fly to high altitudes. The trainer opened the cage of the falcons and one of them flew out immediately. After going above the clouds he completed his flight and came back in his cage. The emperor was thrilled to see this scene. As a reward, he gave a handful of gold to the trainer.

When it was the time for the flight of the second falcon, the head told the emperor that he had been sitting on the same branch of the tree from the day he came into their sanctuary. He never moves. The trainer said that he has tried his best to provoke the falcon to fly but in vain.

The emperor decided to hire another trainee for that falcon who can make him fly. An old man came and said that he can make the falcon fly too high heights like the other one. The emperor gave him the chance to try his luck. He said that he will come the next day to see his progress.

When the emperor came the next day the falcon flew high and came back in minutes. The king was very happy with the old man. He asked him how he had done this. The old man said, “I trimmed the branch of the tree. This forced the falcon to fly.”

Moral:

Don’t sit idle when you are given the wings to fly high.
